FREEDOM, FIRE AND FANCY FOOD

This weekend, we headed to the Sunshine Coast. Our son is off to the ADF, and we are attending his farewell ceremony on Monday. We’ve been renovating and working non-stop so thought this would be a great opportunity to get away with Besty and Milton.

Camp site

Our first stop was Browns Creek Camping campsite. This is a self-contained camp nestled amongst trees, with a small creek and the sound of birds. The owners and their 3 children popped down to say hello and have a chat to the campers which was lovely. Brett conveniently booked a campsite only 3km from Terella Brewery… We set Milton up and I set up a risotto to cook in the Dream Pot while we went to Terella for lunch.

Terella Brewery

I’m not a big fan of beer but we bought a paddle so I could try some and I’ll admit, they weren’t too bad. We had (in order of favourite to least). Lychee and Hibiscus lemonade, Orange and Coriander Wheat Beer, Mango XPA and a Pineapple IPA. Pete the Greek was there, and we indulged in some loaded lamb fries with Tzatziki (OMG!) and then some Mexican chicken tacos (OMG!). Then we headed back for a nice afternoon by the fire. The risotto turned out pretty good, although it wasn’t really hot, so I reheated it a bit to make it a bit tastier. We sat by the fire for a while and then had an early night, like, I’m talking early! We were in bed by 7:15 so I read for a bit and then I couldn’t sleep. But we had no internet reception so I couldn’t put my sleep visualisations on. I’m not used to having nothing to do. It’s going to take me a while to get used to that.

Spirit House

This morning, we measured the cupboards in Milton to work out what storage we needed and what might go where, then headed to Spirit House for lunch. Wow. Just Wow. This would have to be the best meal I think I’ve ever eaten. We’ve done cooking classes there before and really enjoyed them, but this time thought we’d dine in the restaurant. It was magnificent. I started with a Passionfruit Chilli cocktail which was hot, salty, chilli and sweet all in one. It was weird but delicious. Every dish we ordered was carefully crafted with the perfect flavours and texture. We didn’t want it to end! I would recommend that you give this place a try, you won’t regret it.

Back at Camp

We headed back to Creekside for another afternoon by the fire with some games and drinks and eventually some food. In the morning we’ll head off for the ADF ceremony for our son. We are very proud of him, and we will miss having him around the house.

It was a very relaxing weekend, but I do think that it’s going to take a while to get used to not having something to do every minute of the day. I felt a bit lost at times not knowing what to do. I know it will be good for us, but I suspect it will take a couple of months to ease into.

  1. Takes a bit of time to learn to relax, but oh when you do, it’s amazing. Reading a book, feet up, coffee/ wine in hand. It will come eventually. Enjoy the ride.
