To start our Prep Year before our Gap Year, we took Milton out to Riley’s Run so we could wake up on the 1st of January and start 2023 in our van. As beautiful as you think Riley’s Run is, it is at a friend’s property, so unfortunately, you won’t be able to stay there. Unless you make friends with them of course!

We spent New Year’s afternoon sitting on the edge of the picturesque Tinana Creek with a few cool beverages and some very cool friends. We then saw in the new year with the most delicious charcuterie board, some rounds of the Fishbowl Game (it’s a guessing game, not a swingers thing) and some really bad singing to some really awesome songs.

Waking up in our new van surrounded by nature in the new year was a treat. At that moment, I knew that we had made the right decision to spend more time exploring our beautiful country. I am very excited to see what our Prep Year brings while we learn how to drive Betsy and Milton so that we can have our Gap Year in 2024.

Lessons Learned

  • Make sure you check all the trees around you before attempting to turn your caravan around
    • Else, you may end up hitting a tree and hurting your van
  • We actually aren’t too old to stay up past midnight as previously thought
