WEEK 1 – WE ARE OFFICIALLY DIGITAL NOMADS!

Phew, what a whirlwind of a month it’s been! I can’t believe we actually made it. We finally wrapped up all the craziness with the house renovations just a minute before we hit the road for our big trip. I’ll be sure to fill you in on all the details in our final update coming soon.
So, here we are, sitting in Milton, and honestly, it still hasn’t quite sunk in yet. It’s been a hectic week and it feels like we’re just on holiday.

Our first stop was Elimbah, north of Brisbane, where we caught up with some old neighbours from my Tamworth days. It was a lovely reunion with folks I hadn’t seen in ages, but it felt like no time had passed at all. The adults, kids (now adults), grandkids (some of them now adults) and great-grandkids all gathered together to eat, drink, chat and play games. It was like no time had passed. We hadn’t seen some of these people for years but it all fell back into place and was such a great weekend.

We then made our way to Fassifern for a night at a free camp spot. The next morning, we got up early to head to Stanthorpe where Brett had to start work. We parked near town and while Brett was busy, I took the opportunity to organise the van with a few trips to the nearby stores.

Fassifern

We spent a peaceful night just outside Stanthorpe at Ruby’s Rest and had a drink overlooking the dam.

The next morning started with a dead car battery, so while Brett worked, I managed to get the car started and took it to Favero Motors, who were amazing and sorted me with a new battery. Then since Brett was earning money, I thought I should spend it by supporting the local community of Stanthorpe. I bought cider and relish from Suttons Apple Farm, followed by a cheese tasting at Stanthorpe Cheese where I managed to limit myself to 3 cheeses and one paste. Then onto Castle Glen Winery for some delicious liqueurs. Lastly, I visited Truffle Discovery Centre. Those who know, know why. Those who don’t, oh well….. I bought a lime aioli because mushrooms are ewww.

We finished the day with dinner and dessert at my Godmother’s house in Tenterfield. Today we checked out Tenterfield and came back to spend more time with my Aunt and Uncle with more dinner and dessert.

Next week, we’ll have to get into a bit more of a routine, but for now, we’re just enjoying the ride and taking each day as it comes. After all, isn’t that what this adventure is all about?

Much to Brett’s horror, I booked a day at the Mornington Peninsula Springs, starting at 6am. This meant getting out of bed in the dark and cold before 5am. However, as you will see, it was totally worth doing and even Brett has admitted that. This place is on another…
