Last night my cousin recommended we head out to this cool place she had heard great reviews about. And wow, just wow! This would have been the most unique hospitality experience we’ve ever had!
Jerry Sent Me is a cocktail bar born from the idea of the speakeasy bars from the 1920s and 30’s. These bars were hidden or unmarked establishments that illegally sold alcoholic beverages, especially during the Prohibition era in the United States. These bars operated covertly to avoid detection by law enforcement. The bar is in an unassuming building and took us a bit to find. But once we opened that door, wow.
Johnny, the owner, has such a love and passion for his establishment that his cocktails are literally made with love. From the milk-washed passionfruit nectar to the homemade caramel sauce, his quality ingredients are second to none. We sat at the bar and watched him make cocktails all night and it was an absolute work of art. His attention to detail was astonishing. The prices were the same as cocktails you would buy at your local pub and totally worth the money, especially considering the quality and time and effort that goes into them.
The ambience of the darkened bar adorned with candles and vintage-inspired decor set a scene of intimate sophistication and retro elegance, reminiscent of a bygone era. We went on a quiet Thursday night with only a few groups, so it felt like we had our personalised experience. I imagine the bustling Friday and Saturday nights would have a different but equally great vibe.
The food on offer was simple, yet fresh and tasty and complimented our drinks. He also doesn’t mind if you bring your own Korean chicken from across the lawn.
I can’t even pick a favourite cocktail as they were all amazing in different ways. The Limoncello Meringue Pie was oozing with tarty lemon and sweet meringue. The Salted Caramel Espresso Martini was worthy of kicking the entire glass clean. And I make no apologies, there was no way I was leaving any of that thick, gooey homemade caramel in the glass. Then there was the Spiced Margarita, not even on the menu but still made for me to my exact spiciness level. Whoa! Is all I can say. The other cocktails we tasted were all very good but I won’t bore you with the descriptions, you just have to try them for yourselves. There was one I didn’t like….. the Negroni. Now I won’t blame this on Johnny because he did say it’s a bitter, unusual taste and not for everyone. Brett loved it. I hated it!
We have never been somewhere that intrigued us so much. Johnny has created an inviting, unique atmosphere and was a wonderful host, entertaining us with stories and cocktail making. He does also have special whisky and beer available but you won’t see a white label Jim Beam in sight! If you are ever on the Central Coast, NSW, I am telling you, it is a must-do thing.
I agree wholeheartedly! Love your style & review. So glad to have met you last night and taken that gorgeous photo of you both lapping up the luxury in this sexy establishment! Happy, safe, enigmatic travels! 🗝️❤️
Thank you for taking that photo! It was great to meet you. I hope the event goes well this week.
What a fabulous find. The cocktails look delicious. The Banana Bread Rum old fashioned is calling to me.
If it’s calling for you, you should definitely give it a try!
