Every year for the last few years, we have an amazing friend who organises a bus tour. We’ve been to wineries, distilleries and breweries. This year, it was a mystery tour, and we didn’t know the locations until the bus turned up at them. Which made it even harder to guess when he took a wrong turn or 2! Our recent escapade took us on a delightful bus trip, weaving through coastal roads, laughter echoing in the air, and anticipation bubbling like freshly poured beer. Armed with curiosity and a thirst for adventure, we set off to discover the craft beer scene that awaited us.
Your Mates Brewery
Our first stop was Your Mates Brewery. This cool little spot exuded warmth and camaraderie. The wooden tables, fairy lights, and surfboards hanging on the walls set the perfect vibe. Brett, our resident beer enthusiast, was in his element. Having already tried most of these beers, he settled for one of his favourites, the Eddie XPA. From hoppy IPAs to smooth stouts, Your Mates had it all. They also allowed us to order off the snack’s menu early and the buffalo wings and blue cheese sauce were sensational. As it was Remembrance Day, the owner stopped serving at 11am and everyone took a minute of silence, which I think was very respectful and I was glad he made the effort. It is a great brewery with an interesting back story so definitely worth checking out.
Moffat Beach Brewing Co
The next stop was the Moffat Beach Brewing Co. They have 2 locations and we headed to the Production House Brewery and Taproom in Caloundra. With over 20 taps, Brett had plenty to choose from for his tasting paddle. The most interesting one of the day though was the “Can’t Beet a root- Beetroot Pilsner”. It was surprisingly refreshing and definitely tasted like beetroot. The names they give their beers are interesting (check out the photo). They also had a food truck inside the venue selling Low ‘n’ Slow BBQ. There was brisket, chicken and pulled pork burgers as well as plenty of delicious sides. Some of our bus guests took a quick tour with the head brewer where he explained the processes and difficulties that can be faced when brewing craft beer on a larger scale.
10 Toes Brewery
Our final destination was 10 Toes Brewery, in their new location in Buderim. I think they had only been open a couple of weeks. They have a funky two-Storey building where the 2nd Storey can be hired as a private function room and overlooks the new production facility. We didn’t have much time to spend at this last stop but enough time for Brett to try the Rye Amber which he thoroughly enjoyed.
The Bus Trip
The Bus Trip itself is worth a mention as half the fun was had on the bus. There were lucky door prizes, beer and cider bingo and even a limerick competition. With great music and friendly chatter, it was great to sit back and relax as the scenery passed us by.
Every good thing must come to an end though and the bus ride back was filled with laughter, sleepy smiles, and promises to do it all over again. It was a relaxing day hanging out with great people and a nice rest from the renovations. However, we are back into it today and should have some posts coming soon of some finished rooms.
