We headed west of Childers this weekend with some friends and spent 2 nights at Dam Crazy. This little gem is 625 acres of peaceful bliss. With only a limited number of campsites, we had plenty of space to ourselves. The 400 megalitre dam was absolutely gorgeous. We swam, we kayaked and we had a “Silly Salmon” competition.

We left after work on Friday afternoon and arrived around 6pm, just before dark. I love that we are set up in about 15 minutes now (and that includes the time it takes to pour our drinks). When we camped with the tent and the kids, it would take at least 45 minutes. We spent our nights around the fire and the days enjoying this idyllic location.

The dam was very refreshing (once you numbed up a bit) and felt very safe to swim in. Then came the Silly Salmon competition. I have no idea who thought of this but wow, what a laugh. You have to jump into the water like a salmon, wiggling mid-air. It was hilarious. I was determined to be a good salmon and must have tried about 15 times. However, alas, I am not a good salmon. Here are some videos for you to laugh at though.

There are kayaks and canoes at the dam free to use so we girls decided to go for a trip across the dam. Four women in a canoe lasted about 20 seconds before it capsized (we managed to save our drinks though so it was fine). We then took some double kayaks and had a leisurely paddle around the picturesque dam with its enchanting water lilies and grasses. Brett took Cooper out for a bit. I don’t think he enjoyed it too much though! Check out the beautiful pictures, which have not been edited at all, this is how blue the sky was!

A weekend spent with great friends, a lot of laughs and a magnificent location, is a weekend well worth having. We are even more looking forward to our travels now.
