WADDLES, WONDERS, AND CHOCOLATE DELIGHTS: A PHILLIP ISLAND ADVENTURE

Last week, we spent time on Phillip Island, a place renowned for its stunning landscapes, abundant wildlife and natural beauty. And Geese! So many Geese! Check out our adventures below.

Penguin Parade

After working at the start of the week, we started our “weekend” with the penguins on Phillip Island. We enjoyed a Guided Ranger Tour of the Penguin Parade. These little birds are so adorable, resilient and agile. It was a pleasure to see them in their natural habitat and watch them make their way from their “raft” (which is a group of penguins who swim together to get safely to shore), through the crashing waves, onto the beach and finally up to where their burrow is. Each penguin has their own distinctive waddle and we were mesmerised by their little characters.

Our guide Annie was young, passionate and professional. She knew so much about the penguins and other animals on the island, and the way she talked about them, you couldn’t help but be captivated by it all. We weren’t able to take photos so that we didn’t disturb the penguins (not that everyone was so courteous) but they allow you to download some pictures from their gallery and use them as you please. Therefore these amazing photos are not ours!

The Nobbies and Forrest Caves

The next day, we headed back to Phillip Island for the day. The roads are not owned by the cars, they are owned by the Geese! When they wander onto the road, there is nothing you can do but just stop and wait for them. Our first stop (other than for the Geese on the road) was the “Nobbies” where we strolled along the boardwalk and checked out the fantastic landscape views with its stunning coastline. We saw a roadside sign for “Forrest Caves” so thought we’d check them out. Doing some research later, we discovered that these Forrest Caves are sea caves that are formed by the erosion of the cliffs. They can only be accessed at low tide. Which lucky for us, just happened to be just as we arrived. We spent a bit of time exploring the caves and enjoying the scenery before moving on.

Phillip Island Chocolate Factory

On our way home we saw the “Phillip Island Chocolate Factory”. There was no choice really but to go in and check it out. We were expecting a little chocolate shop so what a surprise we got when we arrived to discover that it is so much more. It was a journey through the history and making of chocolate in a fun and interactive way. I’m sure kids would love it, and we truly enjoyed ourselves too as we embraced this fun way of learning about chocolate. Check out the video below to see how much fun we had.

We enjoyed our time on Phillip Island, immersing ourselves in its natural beauty and unique experiences. From the charming Penguin Parade to the breathtaking views of the Nobbies and the fun at the chocolate factory, it was a great few days. And we loved the Geese!
